Architecutre is a Special Effects Machine

Diller + Scofidio’s early work lies between the fields of art and architecture. Projects such and the Slow House, the Brasserie, and Soft Sell cause us to relook at the role and hierarchy of architecture. Liz Diller gave a TED talk, featured below, entitled Architecture is a Special Effects Machine.

The title and peices of her discussion resonate the values of her earlier work. Many of the larger projects Diller + Scofidio have recently completed do not execute their theories as well as their early small scale work, but it’s good to know that those original ideas and drivers are still on their mind.
