Architnect’s 20 predictions for 09

Archinect has posted 20 predications, or speculations, for architecture and design in 2009. The 20 writings are a mix of up and coming designers, such as Jeffery Inaba and Benjamin Ball, as well as prominent archinect locals and staff. It’s interesting to see the diversity of the predictions.

REX Dollhouse for Calvin Klein

“By treating a New York street like landscape—and Calvin Klein’s storefront like a New York street—we created a detached single-family dollhouse in Manhattan for the Calvin Klein woman,” said architect Prince-Ramus. “Undeniably frivolous, the ‘Madison Avenue (Doll)House’ still suggests a kernel of an idea for accommodating growth in existing population centers.” -REX

LEGO Villa Savoy

Here we have an interesting lego rendition of Le Corbusier’s Villa Savoy, originally constructed in 1929. A few of the details are off, (first to catch my eye was that the pilotis are part of the facade, rather than being inset) but it is a very elegant an intersting use of legos.

LOT-EK Shipping Container Puma City

Puma City by LOT-EK is an 11,000 square foot store consisting of 24 shipping containers.  Puma City is designed to be easily disassembled for transportation.  The store is currently on tour around the world. Long time supporter of KCRW, architect Thom Mayne, appeared on Los Angeles based KCRW as a guest DJ. There is a long list of architecture majors and drop outs becoming famous musicians – but this is the first starchitect as DJ.
